Weddings are all about celebrating with your loved ones and no other tipple says this more than Champagne! There is so much more flexibility nowadays with many venues giving you the option to supply your own drinks. Even with a corkage fee this can still be a more cost-effective option and allow you to taste something extra special, like Champagne, for a fraction of the price.
I’ve just returned from the Champagne region in France and I’m now wishing I had made this journey before my wedding! With only a 3 hour drive from Calais this trip is doable in 2 days, a long weekend or an extended trip to take your time and travel around the entire region.
If you’re planning on supplying your wedding Champagne or just interested in travelling to France and visiting the area, we have some must-see places to add to your list…
Charles Mignon – 7 Rue Irène Joliot Curie, 51200 Épernay, France
This was a great find to combine a cellar tour and tasting. You’ll be guided through the history of the House and Champagne, visit the cellars, vat room and learn all about the process as well as interesting facts about Champagne.
All this for an incredibly reasonable price too with a tour & tasting for only €12!
Blondel – Domaine des Monts Fournois , BP 12, 51500 Ludes France
We received a lovely warm welcoming when visiting Blondel. Not only is their Champagne amazing but as you step down into a hidden cellar gem you will find wonderful memorabilia and a small bottling production line.
Sadly this family-run Champagne House will be closing at the end of the year however you will still be able to visit and purchase Champagne. Plus with the incredible weather there has been across Europe this summer, it has been announced that 2018 will be a vintage year so I know I’ll be visiting Blondel in 4 or 5 years to bring back something special from their last ever production!
G. Tribaut – 88 Rue d’Eguisheim, 51160 Hautvillers, France
G. Tribaut is situated in the village of Hautvillers, 6km from Epernay, with one of the most beautiful picturesque views I’ve ever seen.
Au 36 – 36 Rue Domaine Pérignon, 51160 Hautvillers, France
Also located in Hautvillers is this lovely restaurant, Au 36, situated on the famous Rue Domaine Pérignon. They have a x3 glass Champagne flight and INCREDIBLE taster menu to enjoy alongside and soak up the bubbles!
Bouché-Machuré -2 Boulevard Saint Michel, Venteuil 51480, France
Bouché-Machuré Brut is a deliciously crisp Champagne at an amazing price of €13.80 per bottle if purchase a minimum of six bottles. The owner is proud to maintain smaller production runs year on year so you know the quality is of importance to this Champagne House.
So with such finesse at a very reasonable price this is a great one to visit if thinking about your wedding Champagne!
The Champagne region left me feeling very inspired to design next seasons PaperLove inc. wedding stationery collections!
